All Around Us
One of the best gifts you can give yourself as a mom, business owner, wife or friend is self-awareness. To not be so wrapped up in a moment, good or bad, that you forget you always have the ability to change it. This brings the insight to recognize there are no chance happenings and no coincidences. You own the energy that brings you the circumstances of your day. Your intentions direct your words and your actions seal your fate. Your response time, temperament and chosen priorities connect all the people, places and experiences in your life. They may or may not come together just the way you envisioned them, but recognizing your role will always find you better for it on the other side.
With your children, you learn this skill the best around age 3, the time they are able to tell you what they want and need, the time they come into their own self-awareness. As you guide them, you find that the more compassion, respect, patience and love you give them, the better you both feel. Your desired outcome for your children begins to align with your intentions and actions in parenting. As hard as it can be to do this some days, you know how important it is to follow the golden rule and treat them the way you would want to be treated. An honest look in the mirror and candid self-awareness is usually the best place to start on the more difficult days. You can and should give this same perspective to your business, your customers, partners and employees. The customer is not always right, but they are always valuable and always to be respected. Use the same skills of self-actualization you learned as a mom when taking on a tough scenario with them. You can apologize your way out of a “crabby mommy moment” with same finesse you use to get back in the good graces of an unpaid vendor.
When you find yourself in those difficult mommy or manager moments, accepting the truth of how and why you got there is the first step to getting out!
