Necessity is the Mother of Invention

Every once in a while, we want to offer you a close-up look at other moms in business who got fed up with the status quo of mediocre solutions (or none at all) and found a way to innovate. Women earning money from the frustrations they encountered in motherhood. They dreamed of being able to complete a task faster, better or safer than what the market had to offer so the business of being a mom’ (skills) kicked in and they made their dreams a reality.
Here’s the tale of how one mom found her ‘preneur’ inside a sippy straw. Jennifer Reyes has two kids who like many kids, drank out of a sippy cup with a straw built in. Those rubber or plastic straws can harbor “gunk” like curdled milk or sticky apple juice. She wasn’t happy with the job the dishwasher was doing to clean them out and the only answer seemed to be to to toss the whole cup. Alas, the light bulb came on in Jennifer’s kitchen one day and the The Sippy Straw Cleaner was born. It looks like a bottle brush, but it’s tiny enough and flexible enough to snake into those stubborn rubber or plastic straws. Now all moms can quickly clean those straws, save a few bucks and rest easy knowing they’ve taken good care of their family.

Just like that– mommy Jennifer had an idea and 5 months later, it’s on the shelf! Moms don’t mess around. The unpredictability of kid chaos teaches you to constantly think on your feet. Efficiency and speed become second nature. Moms are improvising and strategizing productivity throughout every day. If we don’t, there is just not enough time to manage the kids, the household, the office (if you have one) and still find time to sleep, eat and bathe yourself. So, whether it’s figuring out the shortest route for the carpool, mapping the quickest way through the grocery store or bringing a new business idea to life…moms cut to the chase and get the job done…NO mess, NO fuss, all fury! Congrats Jennifer!!
