Cover Girl Confidence

This week we were featured on the cover of a magazine for business professionals called Career Magazine. We were very honored when they chose us and during the interview we told them a lot about our Business of Being a Mom.
We had an unexpected laugh around the office when just after sharing our proud, put together cover girl moment with everyone, I (Mindee) pulled my favorite lipstick out of my mom bag-o-tricks and found it covered in goldfish crumbs, a bandaid wrapper and a half eaten M&M. We couldn’t help but see the irony of a “cover” girls make-up covered in kid stuff.
The truth is, we were chosen for this cover because of what we had accomplished not how we looked. That type of beauty is very humbling.
Motherhood forces you to give up a lot of personal vanity and pride. Even if you are the fit and fun type, you still find yourself roaming the school halls with bed head. The longer you live this dresssed down life as a mom, the more you realize that the people and experiences you care about most are there for you no matter how put together you are. The people you really want in your life are much more concerned about who you are, what you know, what you feel and what you do for others. You find a lot of inner confidence when you’re a mom that you can use to your advantage in business, It forces you to recognize your just as capable as the person next to you, even if your not in designer heels or a business suit.
This casual shot of us in t-shirts and jeans is just us being real, who we are. Being a Mom is what taught us how to do that. Lipsticks covered in M&M’s, goldfish crumbs and band-aid wrappers don’t phase us one bit, two swipes and a pucker and off we go.
